Bridging the On and Off-Chain Economy

Our Open Rights Exchange (ORE) protocol provides a decentralized, immutable standard for payment and rights management for APIs. As more and more transactions move online, this protocol will become increasingly useful, allowing assets of any kind to become frictionlessly tradable in a standardized way.

API Monetization

Participate in the $2.2 trillion API economy. The ORE platform empowers developers to monetize their code with flexible payment options including pay per call and pay per time. No banks or credit cards required.

Blockchain Security & Simplicity

Remove pain of managing (and risk of exposing) client secrets and authorization codes. With a simple Javascript library, the ORE protocol handles micropayments and API access control so you can focus on your code not security.

Open Source Protocol

The ORE protocol is available on Github and can be applied to any API that wants to offload the work of payment processing and access control to the blockchain. Using the protocol allows API developers to run the same business with fewer lines of code and fewer servers to host.

Decentralized API Marketplace

The API Marketplace makes it easy for developers anywhere to find and purchase world-class technology using cryptocurrency without the need for credit cards or bank accounts. The marketplace includes both user reviews and automated testing to ensure that new users get great products, and makes it easy for small teams to get paid fairly for their work.

ORE Network

The ORE Network enforces good behavior for APIs using the protocol. ORE miners validate the smart contracts in the system to ensure that they’re compliant with existing templates and perform both automated and manual testing on APIs that are publicly available on the platform.

API Quality Tests

Network Health: miners receive ORE rewards for storing and maintaining immutable rights objects and running regular tests that check the health and performance of protected resources. API Health: API producers define SLAs for each API and provide unit tests that, when run, prove that the API is meeting those SLAs. API producers may attach a fee (in ORE) to incentify miners to prioritize these tests. Test results are public, and provide proof of an API’s history of quality and reliability. High API reliability allows a producer to charge a premium and is a strong incentive to pay fees in ORE to run tests often.

Improve API Marketplace Listings

API producers may bid on a price paid in ORE to improve the placement and marketing of their API in the marketplace. This is similar to Google AdWords auctions. API producers may also stake ORE to increase the likelihood of their API being featured in marketplace banners and searches.

Off-Chain Authorities

Some on-chain transactions require off-chain actions to be certified complete by an Authority (e.g., a Notary Public). An ‘Authority’ stakes ORE as a bond that is forfeit if actions certified by that Authority are successfully challenged as fraudulent or deceptive. Authorities will compete with others in the same domain to have the highest bond of staked ORE (as a proxy of trust) thereby consuming available ORE and increasing its overall value. A broad range of Authorities may exist. For example, a ‘Test Verifier Authority’ would confirm that the suite of API unit tests offered by a provider are valid to prove the terms of the API’s SLA. The SLA listing in the marketplace would show a badge as ‘certified’ by a specific, highly rated Authority.

Expected Utility

The ORE token is required for Miners, API providers, and other users who want to participate in the ORE economy. Token economics are designed to incentivize the sale of high quality products in the marketplace and disincentivize low quality products and fraudulent testing.
